I built the 1/144 scale Vasa from Airfix as a teenager. |
(Model finished 1978) |
The Swedish warship Vasa sank after sailing roughly 1,300 m (1,400 yd) into her maiden voyage in 1628. She was raised in 1961 and now resides in a museum. |
I started to build it, but paiting all those small figures was to boring so it went on the shelf of shame |
But after a couple of years I decided to finish it and I had a specific goal in mind. |
I did manage to finish it very late December 1978. 350 years after it went to the bottom. |
The model has survived surprisingly well. For a long time it was in a box in the basement and parts of the rigging has came loose just hanging in the threads but now it is collecting dust high up on a shelf. I have bought a second kit a couple years ago that I intend to build some time. |
