This is a Advanced SEAL Delivery System (ASDS) in 1/350 scale. It came with the USS Greeneville kit but I decided not to mount it on the sub. Instead I built it as a separate piece. |

The Advanced SEAL Delivery System (ASDS) was a midget submarine. It provided stealthy submerged transportation for United States Navy SEALs from the decks of nuclear submarines. Six units was planned but only one was built. It was in commission from 2003 to 2008. It was 65 feet (20 m) long and 6 feet 9inches (2.06 m) wide. It had a crew of 2 and could carry 16 SEALs |
This is a Deep-submergence rescue vehicle (DSRV) in 1/350 scale from Riich Models. |
(Model finished 2024) |
The submarine was intended to be air transportable; it was 50 feet (15 m) long and 8 feet (2.4 m) in diameter, and it weighed 37 tons. The sub was capable of descending to 5,000 feet (1,500 m) below the surface and could carry 24 passengers at a time. Two rescue submersibles were built, Mystic (DSRV 1) and Avalon (DSRV 2). |
The Mystic was launched in January 1970, and entered full operational status in 1977. It was eventually replaced in 2006. Avalon was launched in 1971 and was decommissioned in 2000. Lars in our club bought the kit and it contained two submarines so he gave me one. |
