I decided to build the old 1/20 scale Tamiya kit as the car that Ronnie Peterson tested in 1976. It would be an out of the box build with just a few new decals as Peterson wasn't an option in the kit.

As it turned out there was one modification needed. The radiators were partly covered so I had to add this with some plastic card. Of course, I messed up and glued it at the rear of the radiator, so I had to rob another kit of one and redo it. I have come to add a few more details for every F1 model so after the by now usual fuel lines and ignition cables I added some tubing to the radiator at the rear. Hexagon plastic rod and a black cable was used for this. |
The nets on the air trumpets are from a set for twelve-cylinder engines. They were smaller than the eight-cylinder set and fitted here. I never liked the 1976 livery on the P34. I always felt that the yellow stripes and numbers didn't fit a Tyrrell but it look strange in all blue. |
Once again, I used the satin ribbon together with Tamiya etch fittings for the seat belts. An old kit means old decals which can be risky. I decided to get new decals from Indycals as I have been very satisfied with the ones I used before. I made some completing decals like the Peterson name and the smaller elf decals on the nose. |
Looking at pictures from the test I noticed that there was some Gaffa tape on the cowling and also some residue from old tape, so I had to try and replicate this using some grey and white decals. I tried to smear the white decals to make the tape residue. |
Using a Tamiya rattle can meant that I for once didn't mess up the paint job to badly. |
