I have started on a Sword Spitfire Mk.XIV. |
(Model finished 2024) |
I was going to do an out of the box build but decided to add some cockpit details. |
But the instructions are confusing. The part layout is shown correct for one sprue but the other sprue don't correspond to the instruction. That is a problem as I am unsure about which cannons I should use for my XIVe. The drawing show the c and e guns in the same length while the plastic parts are in different length. If I understand the information I found, I should use the short ones. |
I think that I have it ready for paint now. |
I sorted out my problem with the guns and opted for the use of some from Airfix. That would give me four guns in the same shape to use on my Seafire. |
After some time away from the models I got some paint on it. I found some masks for the camouflage on the net that I decided to try. Some touch ups were needed but I'm not to disappointed with it. |
Lets call it finished. |
Another Spitfire marked as one of J.E. Johnson's planes. |
I decided to build my AZ kit as well while building the Sword kit. |
(Model finished 2024) |
How come there are kits made with part that doesn't fit? A short run is not an explanation or a excuse for parts being to large or to small. Sometime during the construction of a kit a test build should have been done and such faults been discovered. The cockpit looked very nice but the parts wasn't even close to fit. I had to remove plastic from the fuselage sides to get things in place. The rudder had to be cut off and replaced with a smaller one. Sadly I was so focused to get the fuselage parts together with the cockpit in place to notice that the new rudder were 0,5 mm more narrow than the one that had been cut away. That gave me big problems trying to adept the rear of the fuselage after I had put it together and the glue had set. |
Slow and steady process. I see that there is a recess behind the cockpit for a fuel filler. Should I add a tube or fill the recess. I don't know if the fighter had the fuel tank. |
Using the same masks for the camouflage as on my Sword-kit I get a uniform look on the Spitfire's. I will use them on my two Mk.IX that I'm going to build as well. |
With the decals in place the only ting that is missing seems to be the exhausts. . |
I used the second version of J.E. Johnson decals from the Sword kit on this. |
So two models that look almost the same are finished. |
