Lynx armoured car

Denmark ordered armoured cars from Landsverk. Three was delivered, but when Germany invaded Denmark the remaining cars were kept in Sweden. These cars became the Pansarbil m/39 (Armoured car model 39) The cars had the turrets replaced for a different type. It was decided to order more cars but Landsverk had no capacity to build these so Volvo built them. The Volvo built cars differed in minor ways from the Landsverk cars and was named Pb m/40. It had a crew of six. A driver and a gunner in the front and also in the back and two men in the turret.

Many years ago Kjell Svensson made many Swedish models in 1/76 scale and they have became hard to find but I bought a rather large lot of built models, many that was broken so I decided to strip the Pb m/40 of paint and rebuild it.

Initially I wanted to backdate it to a m/39 but the accidents with a strv m/37 and m/42 showed that the material had become very hard and brittle so I changed my mind. Lately many of Kjell Svensson kits has been re released by Maestro Models so I bought a second kit for the conversion.

Parts came packed in a plastic bag

A total of eight parts.

I have put a first coat of green on my m/40. After that I discovered that I had picked out the wrong turret from the wrecks. I now have a green Strv m38 turret while the correct turret is unpainted. :) I also begun the work on the m/39. The main things to do is work on the mg-bulge on the front

and the same work is needed at the rear.

I started by removing the rounded part. I also removed the foot step above the exhaust pipe. I have seen it in only one pic of a m/39 but not in the others.

The rear was massacred too.

I had to rebuild the shape after removal of the resin. The turret had some guard added round the gun and mg openings.

The rear didn't need as much Magic Sculp as the front. The resin was harder than I expected. It made it a little hard to work on.

After this the new "bulge" for the mg was made of Magic Sculp

The rear did need the same work. The sad part is that it probably will be hard to spot any difference between the cars when finished.

The work on the cars slowly goes on.

The green painted hull is the m/40 and the other one is the m/39 conversion.

The m/39 got small reflectors added. I glued plastic discs to the front of the rear light and the signal horn to get them circular. I also drilled out the head lights. The m/40 also got these plastic discs. Looking at pictures of these cars I noted that on most pictures the head lights got a protective cover so I added that on the m/40.

The rear also got the circular signal horn and rear light. The m/39 also got the small reflectors. They are getting close to paint now.

I brought out the 1/72 scale Sd.Kfz.222 from ICM to compare the sizes. The Swedes are in 1/76 scale

Pansarbil m/39

As usual when things are ready to paint my interest dies. This time the pause was "only" five months.

But I finally got some paint on it.

Pansarbil m/40

I decided to make a different pattern on the camouflage to make them more interesting. I have seen a picture with a row of cars painted and they all looked different.

I used the same decals from Sindcore as I used on my Strv m/38 series. Very good quality and easy to work with. Not even the small numbers on the fenders gave any problems.
