Time for this old one. A friend in the model club had bought this half-built kit to use the engines on the diesel Ju86 kit but it didn't happen so he asked me if I wanted it.
|
Instead of using the engines to convert the diesel Ju86 for something Swedish I decided to use it for some experiments for later builds. Looking at pictures I felt that the nose is too short between the glass nose and the cockpit and it also lack the slope of the "roof", so I cut it off and added some plastic and also built up a slope with layers of plastic card. |
I also filled the hole for the low turret and built some walls in the landing gear wells. |
I am building a transport version so windows were drilled and a hump on the back was built. |
At first I planned to build the hump as a box on top of the fuselage but felt it was easier to build it separate and make a cut in the roof for it. I can make a copy of it for a later build this way. |
Got the wings in place so it's starting to look like an aircraft. I made a copy of the "hump”, so I can build a second one later. |
Almost ready for paint. |
Green all the way. |
I finished it by adding a camera. |
Rikets Allmänna Kartverk, the National Public Map Office used three Ju86 from the Air Force between 1952 and 1957. |
As I think that the civilian side is somewhat forgotten I always joy when I find something that might not be common knowledge. Just like this one. |
But when I removed the masks I noticed an error I made. The bottom window on the nose should have been filled. |
