I found a kit that I had started on and decided to finally finish it. It's an MPC boxing of the Airfix SAAB Draken.
|
I was going to do a quick out of the box build but the saw happened to be unemployed. |
But from here it should be an easy build (I hope) |
I am trying to see if I can make this old kit look a little more modern without the help of expensive resin or etch parts. |
Plus, some modifications to make the individual that I want. The little air intake on the spine behind the cockpit had the front opened with the help of a small square file. I also made it shorter. |
The air intake on the right side had to be replaced by a "grill". My first thought was to fill the recess and scribe the grill but I choose a simpler way?? I scribed the grill in to plastic card and carved out a larger recess in the spine to fit this grill. |
The front of the air intake in the tail got the same treatment as the small one on the spine. I thought that I was ready to close it up and paint it, but I decided to try and draw a paper cockpit for it like I have done on my Viggens. Besides, I forgot that I put on some putty last evening that need to be sanded first. |
Paper cockpit work: Instrument panel |
And side panels. This instrument panel is one off for just this individual, but I have also drawn the standard panel. I will probably do the grey interior for the Austrian Draken as well. I have messed up a bit and put the right-hand side panel to far to the rear. To compensate for this, the left one is to far forward. I will see what I decide to do about it. |
Finally done |
Since it was an Airfix kit in an MPC box I thought that an American plane would be just the right finish for it. |
