I use the Tamiya seat belt set for my 1/20 scale cars as they are easy to get for me. I am not happy with the paper belts so I use blue satin ribbon instead. But as it is 3 mm wide some cutting are needed. I put on a thin layer of white glue on the backside of the ribbon so it wouldn't tear when cutting it but I find the whole procedure rather boring so I have kept putting it forward. But now I decided to start on the belts and while cutting the pieces needed I decided to make a whole bunch so that I have them ready for some cars to come. |
I used the paper belts as a pattern to cut the ribbon before but now I decided to make me a little tool to help me. I use Evergreen plastic strips but the 0,5 x 3,2 mm strip was to narrow so I had to glue a 0,25 x 0,5 mm strip to it so it became 3,5 mm wide. It was cut to the belts shape and 1,0 x 1,0 mm strips was glued to the sides to steer the ribbon. |
The tool has to be shorter than the belt so one can hold the ribbon with a finger so it doesn't move while cutting. |
Slip the ribbon in the tool and cut using the tool as a pattern. |
I then turned the ribbon over and cut the other side. I first tried to do this without flipping the ribbon but being right handed the angle for the knife became awkward for the other side so flipping was easier. |
A lot quicker than using the paper belts as a pattern. |
Time to start building more cars. |
